Creating a shop is an expression of the
heart that harmonizes the spiritual, romantic, and poetic aspects of
my nature. It enhances the quality of my life, inspires my
creativity, and enriches my spirit. There
is something both magical and mystical about selling things. When I
buy an item, I know it is an act of faith in things to come. This
simple deed reminds me that someone has specially picked this item
as a satisfying fulfillment for someone they care about. In many
ways my shop is the way I want to live. I try to create a place that
is uniquely mine. It's a cozy, romantic haven that suits the
surrounding 1900 restored buildings and providing small downtown
shopping.
The shop has evolved over time. To me a natural and unstudied
look is inviting. I mix Habersham furniture with Pine
Cone Hill bedding, decoupage fringe vases with M.A. Hadley
dishes. Cottage colored pottery from Park Designs and
beautiful classic tablecloths from April Cornell and Yochi
Designs finish the picture. Even the antique chandeliers are
from another time.
With a sense of adventure, strong knees and sturdy backs, we
set about transforming a tattered abode into an exuberant mix of
color and style. By adding Sangam clothes, Matiko
shoes, Rico sweaters, Michael Michaud jewelry (along
with many others), Optima baskets, Oklahoma Casting
genius, and Authentic Models, we strive for the unusual.
Notwithstanding the delectable appeal of the end result, it is
the always unfolding process of creating and maintaining a vibrant
shop that I find most enjoyable. And because I try always to work
with natural things, my store is constantly evolving and changing.
Because of my love of flowers, I keep an old address book that I
tuck with exquisitely preserved garden gems. These are the basis for
my Posy People, a unique collection of "flower art with
attitude." Each gift of a handcrafted pressed botanical
keepsake bestowed on a friend or loved one is a personal expression
of caring and affection. Something new that has just been added is a
6 X 8 X l l/2 gicleé wrapped print (Also available: 24 X 36 &
30 X 40). Even our foam flowers are
so authentic that you need to touch them to see if they are real!
I think it's impossible to have too many baby girl dresses. A
lovely shower gift, these hand-made clothes by Mimi Rose are
the oohs and aahs of each grandmother or mom who walks in the shop.
Paired with a color-matched 7" or 13" size Ugly Doll
reminds us that we are all unique in our own special way. They are
hip, huggable and not a a bit ugly at all.
My wish is that this store will inspire you and be a helpful
companion for getting the most from your home and lifestyle and you
will keep coming back to "get a dose of Mary Contrary".
